Ghana to host 2026 Africa Real Estate Festival

Ghana to host 2026 Africa Real Estate Festival marks one of the most anticipated events in the continent’s property sector. Taking place on April 18-19 in Accra, this edition of the Africa Real Estate Festival (AREF) promises to redefine urban living and highlight innovative solutions for Africa’s cities.

With the theme “Innovation Meets Identity: Designing Africa’s Next Living Experience, Positioning Real Estate as More Than Just Property,” attendees can expect thought-provoking discussions, networking opportunities, and insights that position real estate not just as property but as a driver of Africa’s future lifestyle. Whether you are an investor, developer, or urban enthusiast, this festival is the place to explore the next generation of African real estate.

AREF Founder Highlights Africa’s Urbanization and the Future of Real Estate

At the Accra press launch on January 16, 2026, AREF Founder and CEO Desmond Oteng called it an ongoing movement fueled by Africa’s explosive urbanization. “Africa is urbanizing faster than anywhere else,” he said. “By 2050, over 1.4 billion Africans will be city dwellers, but our real estate talks still revolve around bricks and prices, not people, quality of life, or sustainability.”

Oteng positioned AREF to reframe real estate as a driver of economic change, climate action, cultural pride, youth opportunities, diaspora ties, and equitable city growth. The inaugural event in Accra will gather policymakers, developers, investors, architects, planners, banks, prop-tech pioneers, and diaspora leaders from Africa and beyond. Though Ghana-hosted, Oteng emphasized its pan-African scope, with expansions planned to other countries.

He stressed “intentional city building,” rejecting chaotic sprawl or isolated enclaves in favor of linked communities and thriving urban systems that prioritize residents. AREF will spotlight real estate’s role in culture, tech, and green growth, drawing over 1,500 delegates, 100+ exhibitors from 30+ nations, 50+ top speakers, plus strong government and diaspora involvement.

Global buzz was evident at the launch, with Her Excellency Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, Barbados’ High Commissioner to Ghana, confirming her country’s participation. She hailed AREF as a vital link between diplomacy, investment, and sustainability.

Real estate isn’t just ownership anymore, it’s ecosystems, capital, lifestyles, and lasting value,” she noted.

Bynoe-Sutherland shared Barbados’ model, where real estate fuels 18% of GDP via stable politics, solid laws, smart taxes, and community focus. She suggested it as a blueprint for Ghana and African coastal nations in tourism properties, coastal protection, wellness retreats, retirement options, and eco-planning. She also pointed to rising Barbadian and Caribbean investor interest in Ghana, spurred by recent visits and surging property inquiries.

Ghana’s Strategies to Mobilize Diaspora Investment in Real Estate

From Ghana’s side, Deputy Director of the President’s Diaspora Affairs Office, Nana Kyere Agyemang, detailed strategies to channel diaspora funds into real estate beyond remittances, toward investments and assets.

Priorities include real estate investment trusts and diaspora bonds for capital access; digital tools for transparent land rules; and AfCFTA-aligned sustainability. He highlighted incentives for trade logistics hubs and praised AREF’s swift execution, signaling government support for ecosystem-boosting collaborations.

AREF uniquely fuses real estate with tech, finance, tourism, logistics, media, and culture to spark deals and partnerships. This multifaceted platform will inform, unite, and motivate through:

  • Strategic Investment & Policy Conference
  • Real Estate Exhibition and Diaspora Investment Pavilion
  • Luxury Experience & Lifestyle Showcase
  • Cultural Festival & Innovation Matchmaking

AREF 2026: Driving Investment, Collaboration, and Sustainable Urban Growth

The festival targets over US$200 million in investment leads, investor trust-building, cross-industry pacts, and the release of The AREF Report 2026 on African real estate trends. It lays the groundwork for regional spin-offs after 2026.

Organized by AREF, backed by research, PropTech boosts, policy pushes, and networking, this pan-African initiative empowers sustainable, culturally rooted growth in Africa’s urban landscape.

Featured speakers include H.E. Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, Mr. Emmanuel Jeffrey (CEO, Real Estate Agency Council), and Mr. Desmond Oteng.
